In 1845, two Royal Navy ships, HMS Erebus and Terror, sailed on an expedition to discover the Northwest Passage. Among the men aboard was caulker’s mate, Cornelius Hickey. Opportunities for advancement seem few and far between, but Hickey is always waiting and observing. When the ships become ice locked and a mysterious creature begins stalking the men, Hickey sees his chance. But Hickey may not be all that he seems.
